    Ernest Beaux

    Ernest Beaux (1881–1961) was a Russian-French perfumer best known as the creator of Chanel No. 5, one of the most famous and influential fragrances in history. Trained at the Russian perfume house Rallet under technical director A. Lemercier, he rose from laboratory assistant to senior perfumer and board member before relocating to France after World War I. As chief perfumer for Parfums Chanel and Bourjois, he composed landmark creations such as Chanel No. 22, Bois des Îles, Cuir de Russie, and Soir de Paris, helping to define modern French perfumery.
